General Internal Medicine Group was founded in 1983 by Dr. Art Rubin and Dr. Mary Jane Major. They were soon joined by Dr. Nina Selvaggi and Dr. Gary Fender, along with office manager Ginna Zell, front desk staffers Joan Dawson and Juliet Singh, and medical assistant Cindy George. All are still working at GIMG and together their beliefs started and still form the core philosophy of our group.
What makes GIMG different? It's about caring. Quite simply, our physicians and staff really do care about all of our patients and strive to provide an exemplary level of care with the goal of optimizing your health and well-being.
We are able to provide quality, personalized medical care for our patients because we get to know you. We maintain a close doctor-patient relationship, believing that our patients should be able to speak directly to their physician when they have questions and concerns. We have an open access scheduling policy that allows you to be seen when you need and want an appointment, and we maintain a telephone call time giving you have access to all our Practitioners.
Our patient-focused caring mission provides you with:- 24 hour availability, 7 days per week
- Open access scheduling, providing same day appointments for patients with
urgent needs
- Services like same day visits, in office IV therapy and lab tests, that help patients
avoid unnecessary trips to the emergency room
- Electronic medical record system that checks for interactions between medications,
allergies, etc. and provides you with a written list of all of your medications
- A network of quality specialists who see our patients in a timely manner
when needed.
- Physicians and staff who are trained monthly in the latest diagnostic techniques and
patient care. We are currently the only group in Virginia to have university
sponsored education (through University of Virginia) in our office.
