Cardiac Stress Testing Preparation
GIMG provides non-invasive cardiac stress testing in our Fairfax office under the care of Dr. Hoare. In preparation for an exercise stress test, please follow the instructions below:
- Do not eat or drink anything for three hours prior to the exam.
- If you are a smoker, do not smoke for three hours prior to the exam.
- For twelve hours before the exam, do not perform any unusual physical exercise or activity.
- If you are on any medication, consult your physician to determine if you should take it as directed prior to the test. Notable medications are beta-blocker blood pressure medications such as atenolol (Tenormin, Tenoretic), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol/XL), propranolol (Inderal/LA).
- Please bring a list of all current medications with you for the exam.
- Wear running shoes and clothing suited for exercise, such as loose fitting pants/sweats or shorts and a short sleeve shirt. Women should wear a brassiere.
- Please bring a towel for your personal use.
