Comprehensive Medical Care for Adults
A significant part of our time is spent in preventive care. When scheduling physicals we allow for a longer session so that we have sufficient time to review your medical history, issues from your family background and any current concerns you may have. Your exam may also include routine laboratory testing and disease screening when warranted. We recommend regular physical exams for our patients, with yearly exams advisable especially for those over age 50. GIMG will soon also offer Executive Physicals.
At GIMG, we believe in continuity in the care of our patients, including preventive testing and exams and care of acute and chronic issues. We recommend that you do not have a preventative physical at places that limit their practice to performing physical examinations. While our physicians and physician assistants can care for the vast majority of patients with specific needs, we also have three specialists working within our practice with whom we can consult to most efficiently treat your problem. If your medical problem persists, your practitioner may send you to one of our specialists, or you may choose another consultant outside of our practice.
Endocrinology: Dr. Selvaggi is a board certified internist and endocrinologist, specializing in illnesses of metabolism and hormone abnormalities. The diseases most commonly seen by endocrinologists include diabetes, thyroid disorders, adrenal gland disorders, disorders of the female hormone system, or disorders of fat metabolism such as hyperlipidemia and high cholesterol. Diabetes is an especially common illness and our office has a specially trained diabetes educator and nutritionist who is available to work with our diabetic patients. Dr. Selvaggi can monitor your insulin regimen and will work closely with your primary care physician and our dietician to insure the highest level of care with the goal of optimizing your health and well-being.
Rheumatology: Dr. Jenkins is a board certified internist and rheumatologist, specializing in treating problems of the joints, muscles, bones and soft tissue of the skeleton. These are disorders such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, system lupus, and many other types of arthritic disorders. Also included in this category are soft tissue problems such as tendinitis, bursitis, and other problems of the muscles and bones.
Cardiology: Dr. Hoare is a diagnostic cardiologist who uses non-invasive tests, such as echocardiography and stress testing to diagnose and prevent illness and hopefully prevent the need for invasive procedures. Dr. Hoare performs all of our non-invasive cardiac stress testing and echocardiography in-house and, in cases of cardiac illness, frequently consults with your practitioner to discuss your case. If an invasive procedure is felt to be necessary, you will be referred to an out-of-office recommended cardiac specialist of your choosing.
